Oxo turns to Graham Packaging for PET jar

Iconic brand Oxo has called on Graham Packaging's UK plant to produce PET jars for a new addition to its range.

Oxo brand owner Premier Foods tasked the US plastic packaging giant's plant in Chalgrove, Oxfordshire with producing the 375ml jar for the new Oxo Reduced Salt Stock Granules.

Label printer Ormerods, based in Rochdale, supplies the paper labels for the pack while a 63mm twist-off closure has been supplied by Robinsons Closures.

Adrian Bird, production and development manager at Graham Packaging's Chalgrove plant, said that the challenge was to produce a lightweight, square and translucent amber jar that matched Oxo's Concentrate Liquid Stock bottles.

"This translucency combined with the square shape meant that any variation in the thickness of the walls would have affected the colour of the product.

"The preform was designed to ensure consistency across the packs and, once in production, set very tight wall thickness limits."

Packaging News readers recently ranked Oxo at number 35 in a list of the brands they admire most for its instantly-recognisable red cube.
