Waterwerkz unveils just-in-time drinks packager

A UK company has developed a system that allows soft drinks to be packed in situ within vending machines.

Branded plastic pouches, from 250ml to 500ml, are stored on a roll in the Pouchlink system, created by Waterwerkz, before being separated and filled using just-in-time flash chilling technology at the point of sale.

The system links spouted, capped pouches in a long chain, eliminating expensive loading machinery and reducing re-loading time.

Waterwerkz managing director Adam Green began developing the machine after seeing street vendors in India selling water in plastic bags.

Steven Jenkins, the company’s sales and marketing director, said a number of companies would trial the technology in the coming months.

The company has teamed up with Bottlegreen Drinks to launch the machine.

Bottlegreen national account manager Giuliano Mai said there was a big opportunity in the vending market as people looked for healthy, on-the-go refreshments in convenient formats.
