Eastern Europe market drives cans boom
Eastern Europe’s thriving canned drinks market was a major factor in the 10% increase in European drinks can shipments to 45 billion cans in 2006, according to Beverage Can Makers Europe (BCME).
The Eastern European market has grown by 22% since 2005 and it manufactured 9.3 billion cans last year, new figures have shown.
Growing sales of take-home beer in cans drove strong sales in Poland, while Russia was named the third-largest can market in Europe after the UK and Spain.
BCME linked increased beverage consumption in Eastern Europe to the region’s growing economic status.
