Packaging firms escape flash flooding

Packaging companies in areas hit by flooding appear to have avoided the worst of the bad weather.

None of the packaging companies in Gloucestershire and the River Thames area contacted by Packaging News reported flooded premises.

However, Online Packaging commercial assistant Charlotte Poole said there had been inevitable chaos on the roads around its Gloucester warehouse and that water and power supplies had been cut off.

"Our warehouse is not flooded so our warehouse manager is just saying, 'Yes, we'll see if we can get to you', if any customers place an order," said Poole.

Another packaging firm said two courier services it used to deliver packaging from its Tewkesbury site had reported similar problems on the roads.

'Next day delivery' loads sent on Friday had been delayed by the flooding and were not likely to be moved again until Wednesday.
