Lakeland unveils space-saving triangular boxes

Homeware retailer Lakeland has launched a triangular box to reduce the packaging on its saucepans.

The tripod-shaped boxes are said to be the first of their kind in the UK, and will appear in the retailer's 42 stores and catalogues this month.

The boxes use less board than a standard square box and improve space efficiency during transportation and merchandising.

Creative agency Nicepond designed the boxes, which are used for the Tri Ply range of saucepans.

"Its dynamic shape is eye-catching for consumers, while ingeniously cutting waste and material costs for the retailer," said Vicky Bembridge, design manager at Nicepond, which is based in Windermere, Cumbria.

"Lakeland is keen to introduce green credentials into its operations and also help customers to make more eco-friendly choices," said Lakeland buying director Matthew Canwell.

"We commissioned Nicepond to create something that would completely reinvent traditional packaging design," he added.

Nicepond works extensively with Lakeland.
