Innovia supplies compostable film for organic chocolate range

Innovia Films is supplying a Dutch company with its compostable NatureFlex NK film for a new range of organic chocolate.

Dutch firm Amigos International has adopted the material for its Ananda range of Ecuadorian dark chocolate to fit in with its organic producer image.

Cumbria-based Innovia launched the NK film in 2008. It is designed to offer similar barrier protection to co-extruded OPP and is compostable to European EN13432 standard.

"We appreciate not only the ecological aspects of the ingredients, but were also looking at packaging to complement this, which led us to NatureFlex," said Amigos owner Jeroen Kruft.

Wood-based NatureFlex is resistant to grease and oil, has high aroma barriers and degrades in a home composting bin or under industrial composting conditions.

Innovia global sales director Alexander van't Riet said: "The NatureFlex range continues to develop fast, driven by consumer demand for more sustainable packaging and companies seeing the differentiation and environmental benefits."
